This is good news: Taiwan has just approved legislation that prohibits the carrying of cosmetic chemical tests on animals. From 2019, it will be illegal to test both the ingredients and the product goes to the final consumer.

Taiwan thus joins the countries that have banned this practice in full or in part, like Norway, Israel, India, New Zealand, South Korea, Turkey and the European Union.

Taiwan is the first country in Southeast Asia to move forward with this measure. “This is a time to celebrate, now that Taiwan joins the growing international movement to end cruelty in cosmetics in Southeast Asia,” concluded Claire Mansfield, the Humane Society International.

For Joy Liou, of Taiwan SPCA organization, the next step will be to ban the sale of beauty products imported proven have been tested on animals.
