The brave hippopotamus

George, an eleven-month-old hippopotamus, found an old crocodile’s tail to lick and bite. It is certain that the animal does not know the risk that eventually runs, but the truth is that the crocodile little cared for the joke.

The images were collected by photographer Karen Paolillo at the Turgwe Hippo Trust, a nature reserve in Zimbabwe. According to Paolillo, the hippopotamus was encouraging the crocodile to play with it. What is more usual in these animals.

Paolillo, who founded the nature reserve, says hippos like to play with crocodile tails or nibble other animals.

It is normal to see crocodiles lick the tail of hippos, although scientists do not know why. On the other hand, it is also very rare to see a crocodile become aggressive by this unorthodox practice.
