Iran will build two new nuclear power plants with the assistance of Russia, announced on Wednesday night the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization.

“The operations to build two new nuclear power plants in Bushehr [Iran] will start on September 10 and will take ten years for the power plants get finalized,” said Ali Akbar Salehi, according to the Iranian state news agency IRNA.

“We will save 22 million barrels of oil a year to build the two plants,” said the head of the organization, adding that the project will cost 10 billion dollars.

According to Salehi, there is a “cooperation agreement” with Russia for the construction of the plants, but the official did not give details about this partnership.
