Nearly half a million people gathered at the US embassy in Berlin today at a rally against President-elect Donald Trump and his plan to build a wall on the Mexican border.
The rally was called through social networks with the motto “Berlin v. Trump,” after a spontaneous protest rally unfolded outside the US embassy in Berlin, Germany, last Wednesday.
The United States embassy in Berlin is located next to the emblematic Brandenburg Gate, which was impassable during the decades when the city was divided by a wall between 1961 and 1989.
In addition to the parallels between the traumatic split then and what Trump announced to the United States border with Mexico, protesters challenged the President’s racist and sexist attitudes.
Donald Trump won the US presidential election on Tuesday, collecting 279 electoral mandates against Hillary Clinton’s 228.
