The company that manages the French railways, SNCF, decided to bring the monuments of that country to its carriages, in the impossibility of all tourists to visit them personally.
The campaign aims to reach out to tourists, but also residents and local citizens, who can enjoy a piece of art in their routine between home and work. The work was developed in collaboration with the US company 3M, which helped the SNCF and redesign the interior of its carriages.
Designs include flowers and furniture from the Palace of Versailles, impressionist art from the Musée d’Orsay and images from the Cinéma Gaumont, the world’s oldest film company. Named Art in Transit, this series of initiatives helps make the lives of passengers more interesting and, at the same time, discourages vandals from damaging trains.
