Type 2 diabetes has been spreading as a result of poor eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle. But much can be done to reduce the risk of the onset of this disease, such as taking a daily supplement of chromium.
More and more people suffering from diabetes, in particular type 2 diabetes, which is characterized by decreased insulin sensitivity.
Experts associate the low chromium levels with insulin resistance, and studies confirm that supplementation with organic chromium yeast can prevent the onset of diabetes and even help diabetics already diagnosed to control their disease.
What is chromium?
Chromium is a necessary nutrient to stabilize blood sugar levels. It is present in small quantities in our food. The daily recommendation varies from country to country but claims to be in the range of 50-200 micrograms. We obtain chromium through the spices, meat, certain vegetables and cheese.
Improves glucose control
A Czech study, published last year, investigated the effect of chromium yeast (ChromoPrecise) in diabetes markers such as fasting blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and serum lipids in patients with type 2 diabetes.
A dose of 100 micrograms of chromium yeast taken daily for eight weeks, have significantly lower fasting glucose and HbA1c, indicating that glucose control and insulin sensitivity improved.
On the contrary, blood glucose levels in fasting and HbA1c returned to the values prior to taking the supplement after eight weeks without taking chromium.
Confirmed by other studies
The researchers, based on their observations, concluded that chromium supplementation may be beneficial in patients with type 2 diabetes, which, as a result of a better insulin response, can improve glucose control.
There are other studies have confirmed that similar results, and also seems to be indications that chromium supplementation can lower the levels of triglyceride in that the chromium helps the body to metabolize macronutrients, such as fats (lipids) and to transform them into energy.
