It is known the Chinese’s ability to copy everything that comes from outside, including cities, iconic buildings or monuments. It was to think of this copy / paste culture that author Bianca Bosker published the book Original Copies: Architectural Mimicry in Contemporary China, which analyzes the trends of replicated structures and how whole communities try to look like places in Europe or America .
In the book, Bosker presents a very comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon of building replication throughout China – a somewhat ironic situation, as a country with great traditions in all areas of society.
From the Eiffel Tower, Venice, the Palace of Versailles to the great Spanish, German and Italian squares, everything can be done from scratch in China – a kind of gigantic Las Vegas. See some of the photos from Bosker’s book.
