The sculptures of Spencer Byles
In an act of devotion to his art, Spencer Byles spent a year in the forest creating sculptures from natural materials. With the materials collected in the forests of La Colle Sur Loup, Villeneuve Loubet and Mougins in France, the artist created works of art that blend with the surrounding nature.
This Byles project is assumed to be intentionally secret – the only way to see these works of art is through photos or go directly into the forests of these French zones and admire the works in person.
All of Spencer Byles’ works are meant to be temporary. The intention is not to last long and each sculpture will eventually be reclaimed by nature.
“The temporary nature of my sculptures is an important aspect of my experience and knowledge. I feel that my work is only complete when nature begins to complain about the materials I used, “explains the artist.
Often, Byles receives proposals to work commercially, but receiving money for his art is something he does not like. As such it prefers to work on its own in communion with nature.
